New workspaces seeded from the curated template set since 10 Sep 2026. PostHog cohorts, 7-day windows, spam and bot bursts excluded. Prepared 23 Sep 2026.
No measurable change in first-week behaviour yet. The data cannot show template usage itself until the cohorts that started after 22 Sep mature.
Every first-week rate for the 468 workspaces created in the flag's first week sits inside the noise of the 2,186 created in the four weeks before. The events that record a template actually being used for a note were only switched on between 16 and 22 Sep, so the one metric this release should move is not yet observable. Trial-to-paid conversion becomes readable around 8 Oct.
Before vs after, first 7 days
Before = workspaces created 13 Aug to the flip at 13:01 NZST on 10 Sep (n 2,186). After = flip to 16 Sep (n 468). Two-proportion z-test, 95% confidence interval on the difference in percentage points.

Daily cohorts around the flip
Each point is one day's new workspaces (Auckland days) and what they did in their first 7 days. The flag flipped mid-day on 10 Sep. Shaded bands mark the two bot bursts that were removed. Day-to-day swing is 10 to 20 points, far larger than any before/after gap.

Why the read is limited
Three things landed inside the comparison window. Two are instrumentation, one is traffic.
6 to 7 Sep85 Egypt signups excludedCountry EG normally sends zero. Removed from the before cohort.
10 Sep, 01:01 UTC (13:01 NZST)Flag curated-default-templates on at 100% verified in PostHog audit logTurned on by Alex, no conditions, never turned off. So this is a before/after read with no holdout.
11 to 17 Sep531 Germany / Psychology signups excludedPeaked at 305 on 16 Sep against a normal day of about 90 total. Customer.io's spam segment caught none of them.
16 SepTemplates UI change: template ids appear on preview events, "added from library" event starts new instrumentationApplies to all users at once, so it is a frontend release, not the seeding. It also means the Templates page itself changed six days after the flag.
18 Sep"Used a form template in intake" volume rises tenfold new instrumentationFrom about 5 users a day to 40 to 160. Not comparable across the flip.
22 Sep"User used a template for a note" starts firing, with source = team / editor / community new instrumentationThis is the metric the release should move. It exists only for cohorts from 22 Sep onward.
Not verified: that what shipped matches the plan of 4 to 6 templates per profession plus a US insurance folder. Seeding is server-side and emits no event. Template deletions in week one held at about 7% before and after, which is consistent with either outcome.
What to measure from here
From 29 Sep
Template use in week one
Share of new workspaces that use a workspace template (source = team) for a note within 7 days, weekly cohorts from 22 Sep. This is the direct test of "more relevant". No pre-flag baseline exists, so the read is trend and profession comparison, not before/after.
From 8 Oct
Trial to paid, first two after-cohorts
Workspaces created 10 to 23 Sep will have finished 14-day trials. Compare against the 13 Aug to 9 Sep cohorts. Keep the same spam exclusion.
When n allows
Profession cut
Counseling, behavioural health, medicine and coaching each had roughly 35 to 70 after-workspaces in week one. Four weeks of after-data is the minimum before per-profession differences mean anything.
Method and caveats
Cohort. One person per track onboarding completion, first completion 27 Jul to 16 Sep. Metrics counted in the 7 days after that event. Persons counted, never workspaces summed.
Exclusions. Test users, 9 persons in Customer.io spam segment 220 (all before the flag), Egypt signups 6 to 7 Sep, Germany/Psychology signups from 11 Sep. PostHog's bot flag was not used: it marks almost every onboarding event as a bot because the event comes from a server-side worker.
Client creation +4.3 pp. Not significant (z 1.85). The behavioural spam fingerprint (client plus fake staff in 24h, no payments) flagged 4.3% of after-workspaces vs 1.3% before, and with those removed the gap halves to +2.3 pp. Not a real effect, and unrelated to templates either way.
Power. Confidence intervals of about plus or minus 4 to 7 points. This read rules out large effects only. A 2-point change in a 20% rate is invisible at this size.
Confounds. No holdout. The 16 Sep Templates UI release overlaps the last day of the after cohort. The NPI lookup flag at 30% since 3 Sep changes the signup flow for some users on both sides of the flip.
Timezone. HogQL reads date literals in the project's Auckland time. The flag cutoff is pinned to UTC; cohort weeks and days are Auckland days. An earlier draft of this analysis had the cutoff 12 hours early and misplaced 78 workspaces.
Source. PostHog production project, HogQL, run 23 Sep 2026. Return day 1 to 7 for 16 Sep cohorts is complete as of today.
